The first step on your journey to greatness, Character Creation plays a huge part in your journey. Picking the right class and character will go a long way to ensuring you enjoy your Elder Scrolls Online experience. A true hero must not only be able to bear arms against their enemies, but to also look like someone out of legends.
Step 1 - Gender and Voice[edit]
The first two choices are your character's gender (male or female) and the sound of their voice. There are eight voice options for the varrying gender and race combinations, so be sure to find the one that sounds right to you.
Step 2 - Alliance[edit]
![Appearance Appearance](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123744553/491969167.jpg)
While selecting a race, it's also important to consider the faction you wish to align yourself with. There are three currently in the game. Certain races will start out tied to specific factions, unless you have pruchased the Imperial Edition of Elder Scrolls Online, and the option to change won't come for quite some time. If you and a group of friends want to play together from the very beginning of the game, everyone should talk over which faction they want before hand.
- Ebonheart Pact - Formed under a period of duress, the three races that make up this pact would almost never work together before the alliance was made. Now the Dunmer, Nord and Argonian people all fight to keep their homelands free from the Empire.
- Aldmeri Dominion - Formed by the Altmer so that they might protect the land with the help of the Bosmer and the Khajiits. The Aldmeri Dominion seeks to rule Tamriel under their banner.
- Daggerfall Covenant - Formed by the High King Emeric, the Covenant consists of the Bretons, Orcs and Redguard. Their primary goal is to retake the Ruby throne and restore order.
Step 3 - Race/Species[edit]
As with any Elder Scrolls game, the first step is picking from the many Races available to you. If you are playing the standard version, there will be 9 available. Adventurers who purchased the Imperial Edition will be able to play a 10th race, the Imperial. A brief outline is below, but more detailed info on each race can be found here.
Daggerfall Covenant[edit]
- Breton - Born to be mages, Bretons get bonuses to their magicka, spell resistance, and light armor skills.
- Orc - Sturdy, powerful warriors, Orcs excel on the front lines and have bonuses to their health, health regeneration, and heavy armor.
- Redguard - Great with the sword, Redguards make powerful DPS characters and have traits that boost their prowess with a sword and shield, as well as increased stamina regeneration.
Aldmeri Dominion[edit]
- Altmer - Also known as the High Elves, they are experts at blowing things sky high, this lavish race of Elves get traits that increase their destructive powers and the rate at which they recover magika.
- Bosmer - Known commonly as the Wood Elves, they are masters at becoming one with their environment, granting them bonuses to stealth, bow skills as well as stamina.
- Khajiit - Eyes up and claws out, this feline race are vicious and agile, giving them bonuses to melee combat and stealth.
Ebonheart Pact[edit]
- Argonian - The Argonians come from the swampy reigon of the Black Marsh and their racial traits reflect this, giving them bonuses to healing, disease and poison resistance.
- Dunmer - The Dark Elf people call the ashen area of Morrowind home, and their skills reflect this as they have large bonuses in fire damage and fire resistance, making them ideal vampires.
- Nord - These rugged warriors hail from the frigid tundra of Skyrim and have traits which increase their two handed skills, health, and frost resistance.
The Imperials[edit]
- Imperial - The only race that is allowed to choose any of the three alliances are the Imperials of Cyrodil. These people are well trained and specialise with shields, giving bonuses to their health and stamina.
Step 4 - Class[edit]
After figuring out the race you want, you can now choose a class. For some people, it might work best to think about which class they want prior to choosing a race. You can jump around the creation process at will, so if you're unsure of the race you want, pick the class first then it will help narrow down the best racial choice. A brief outline of each class is below, but for all the details head to their dedicated pages Here.
- Dragon Knight - Offering a mix of DPS and tanking power, a Dragonknight can be played a few different ways. Whatever your choice, they are most likely to be in the front lines, swinging swords or large weapons.
- Sorcerer - As you might expect, the Sorcerers are potent spell casters that can buff themselves up with lightning from the skies, sling damaging spells at their enemies, or summon in Daedra help from Oblivion.
- Nightblade - A powerful DPS class, the Nightblades excel at hurting their foes, disorienting them and then disappearing. They work well in parties, or even alone thanks to their strong sustain skills.
- Templar - Similar to the Dragon Knight, the Templar is a class that offers a mixture of skills. They can be powerful tanks, offer strong AoE support or heal their allies with restorative magicka.
Step 5 - Detailed Customization[edit]
Elder Scrolls has never lacked customization, and ESO is no different. In fact, it's even more so than before. Players can sculpt the look of their character through many separate options. The first is body type, which gives you a sliders for the balance of musculature, largeness, and thiness.
The second tab deals with the body itself, ranging from height, skin colour, markings, various body part sizes, and more.
The head gets the same treatment for detail as the body, allowing you to slide your facial structure between Heroic, Soft, and Angular features. Along with it, and in the next tab, comes things like age, adornment (facial hair and small trinkets), hair style, colour, forehead slope, and more.
The very last of the tabs deals with teh face itself, such as with the eyes, nose, and mouth. Along with everything else, the character customiser allows you to create the perfect character.

This article is about the in-game store. For the store on the official website, see PC/Mac Store.
The Crown Store is an in-game store which allows for the purchasing of exclusive content, such as items and DLC. Crowns are the currency required to buy things from the store, and can be purchased separately or obtained by paying for an ESO Plus subscription. There is no way to earn Crowns in-game.
Crowns and Crown Store items cannot be sold or transferred to other accounts.
If you have an account on both megaservers, you will be able to use your Crowns on both servers; however, any items purchased will remain on the server that they were purchased on.
The Crown Store has new items added monthly. The items may have themes: if there is a DLC based on Daedra, for example, then there may be items in the shop that are Daedric-themed. Items in the Crown Store have a 'preview' function, so that you can see what an item looks like with your character before purchasing it.
For a list of items, see one of the following links:
Obtaining Crowns[edit]
Crowns can be obtained in the following ways:

The following table summarizes the rates of return, rounded to hundredths of a crown per dollar. The entries with parentheses are the Crown allotments that come from an ESO+ subscription. In the Crowns column, the table lists the total number of Crowns received and the length of the subscription. In the Cost column, the total cost is listed with the monthly cost in parentheses.

Gifting[edit]
Update 18 introduced gifting to the Crown Store, which allows players to gift Crown Store items to other players directly.
Certain criteria must be met before the ability to gift is unlocked; new players need to become an ESO Plus member or make a Crown Pack purchase and wait 30 days in order to gain the ability to gift. Existing players who have never purchased Crown Packs or ESO Plus must also make a Crown Pack purchase and wait 30 days. Players with an existing history of purchases and ESO Plus membership will have gifting unlocked for them.
The gift recipient has 14 days to accept or decline the gift. If they decline then it returned to the original sender who is unable to make use of it themselves, although they can resend it or send it to a different player. Player Housing and 'instant unlock' items like Bag Space Upgrades and Curse of Vampirism are not able to be gifted at this time.
Senders can write a personal message or choose from a small selection of preset messages, listed below:

Notes[edit]
- On Xbox One the Crown Store can be used to buy ESO Plus subscription time from the Xbox Marketplace. PS4 ESO Plus subscriptions must be bought through the PlayStation Store.
- A 'Pay to Lose' category was added to the Crown Store for April Fools' Day 2017, as a reference to the 'Pay to Win' trope often associated with subscription-free MMO games which gain revenue through a cash shop. It contained a level 1 broom two-handed weapon and a level 1 bucket heavy helmet.
- Lore snippets taken from the Crown Store Showcase series can be read here.
- Anyone with an existing account at the time of the change to Tamriel Unlimited - whether with an active subscription or not - was given 100 crowns for every month that they had been subscribed.
- Anyone with an active subscription at the time of the change to Tamriel Unlimited was given 1500 crowns per month remaining (with 0-30 days counting as 1 month, 30-60 counting as 2 months, and so forth).
- Players who originally created an ESO account with ZeniMax but later switched to the Japanese version lost all remaining Crowns upon making the transition to DMM.

Dedicated adventurers in the Elder Scrolls Online will be receiving a forthcoming update that will enable changes to appearance and race, which is quite a big new feature for players who are already deeply invested in their characters but interested in a cosmetic and/or racial do-over. We now have some details regarding how players makes these changes and how much they will cost.
Appearance Change Tokenswill now permit the total alteration of appearance, including but not limited to hair styles and colors, adornments, face and body markings, facial features, eye color, age, body and face shape, as well as voice and gender. One of these tokens can be purchased for 1000 crowns from the Crown Store.
Race Change Tokens do everything the Appearance Change Tokens do, but add the option to change one character’s race to one available for that character and account. If you have the Explorer’s Pack you will be able to choose any race from any alliance. If not, you can choose any race from your chosen alliance. One of these tokens can be purchased from the Crown Store for 3000 crowns.
Tokens can only be used from the Character Select menu. When you click a token to use it, you’ll be taken to the game’s Style Parlor to make the changes you desire, but changes aren’t complete until you confirm it, allowing you to back out if you’ve had a change of heart.
You will also be able to purchase a Name Change token, to, you guessed it, change your name! These tokens can be purchased for 2500 crowns. If PwnUSoH4rdN00bzY0l0Sw4g doesn’t quite fit the Tamriel setting for you anymore, this is your chance to choose something a little more elegant. Maybe now you’ll actually find friends to do dungeons with.

The Style Parlor also gives you some choices for changing hair style, adornments, and markings as often as you like with items you have purchased, which can be accessed from your Collections menu under Appearance. These can all be used with many of your existing collectibles which is a nice touch. These will be lower priced items, starting at around 200 crowns and will vary in nature, with more to be added down the road. For players interested in taking advantage of several of these options right out of the gate, there will be several bundles offered to allow for some savings.
These new features along with costume dyeing and a base game patch will all be included in Update 11 which release in conjunction with the Shadows of the Hist DLC. The content reaches PC on August 1st, and PS4 and Xbox One on August 16th. There are few things an MMO player likes more than options for customization, and this update looks poised to deliver on that front. Planning on doing a new you? Let us know what you’ll be tweaking in the comments.
